Kiln forming rocks

Some further thoughts on rock kilning, I may have just made up that term, but it sounds like a thing. After many trips to West Penwith to visit the different stone circles and monoliths, I came home with so many photos and drawings that I wanted to explore them in glass. These visits felt healing - not in the traditional, pass my body through Men-an-Tol way, but in the way a place can quietly help you when you’re struggling with the day to day. Going somewhere else in nature, that’s not your house or hometown can shift your viewpoint and the base from which the pendulum swings.

I hadn’t been able to make anything in stained glass since 2022, and I missed the creative outlet. When I was offered the chance to share a studio that wasn’t too expensive, it gave me the push to begin some sort of practice again. And so, West Penwith and the stones became my topic of choice. There’s something about the stones that draws you in..
